India
ranks fourth in the world as far as the GM crop acreage is concerned
beating China.
According to the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-Biotech Applications (ISAAA), Indian farmers have planted a total 11.6 million hectares (mh) under transgenics in 2014.
This
figure is equal to that of Canada and ahead of China.China’s GM
crop area stands at 3.9mh. But India lags behind Argentina (24.3 mh),
Brazil (42.2 mh) and the US (73.1 mh).
